Connor M

Hello, my name is Connor, and I am 13 years old. I go to the American Community School of Abu Dhabi, and I have been working on different of artworks throughout the year. I kind of artwork I like is mainly artwork that is either copying or some sort of replicating artwork, but what I like the most is pencil drawings, because I know I make a lot of mistakes and using pencil to put in details and being able to erase and fix it, and even make even more with eraser is really appealing to me. The reason I like the replicating or copying paintings is because of how I like to pay attention to detail. I think one good example of this is the recent painting, a copy painting I did of a painting called "Tableau (yellow, black, blue, red and grey)" by Piet Mondrian.

And here is my painting copying it
I like this painting and this unit in general because of how it basically asked you to use and improve your detail skills, and I feel like I did that well, plus the freedom of choice of my painting I thought was a very good way to make to make sure we can all do something we can all do well, challenge ourselves, and eventually be proud of it.

  1. Hi, I think that the shading around the chin and under the eyes is really effective. What did you use for your shading and drawing? Charcoal?

    1. Thank you for complimenting on my shading, actually I used pencil for everything I did in this drawing, I sometimes used a tissue to rub the pencil to make it blend in so it looks like shadows

    1. Thank you for saying nice things about my portrait I used a picture I had with me at all times so I could copy a lot of the details.

  3. Your painting is interesting! It seems as though it's in the style of De Stijl, is that right? I also like the use of basic colors, it really stands out with your choice of a white background! For your drawing, you made a great use of shading and especially the darker tone on the glasses make it pop out! I honestly can't think of anything to improve on! Keep up the good work!

  4. I really enjoyed reading this blog as not only did I take in lots of information about these paintings and this style, but I also loved the paintings that were posted on this blog. I was just wondering what inspired you to paint this style and what inspired to start this blog? Thanks!

    1. The reason I started this blog because of my entire art class was doing it so we can share our art with people around the world, I am glad I get the opportunity to share the artwork I worked hard on.

  5. Hi I'm Kelly Huh from Xiamen International School. Your post is really interesting and I enjoyed so much. I also like pencil drawing and I know it is really hard to sketch naturally. I like your drawing skill which is making the sketch smoothe.

  7. Hi I'm Amanda from Xiamen International School. I really like your painting, because I also did something similar like that once. But if you can make your lines straighter, then I think your artwork can be so much better. Overall, you did a really good job. :)

  9. Hi i'm Vivek from UWCSEA. I found that the way you used your shading made your painting detailed. I love the way you used different shades in your drawing. I really like the way you drew the ear and the left eye because it looks very realistic. Overall your drawing was excellent as Amanda said.

  10. Hi Connor! I'm Meher from UWCSEA Singapore! I really liked both of these pieces of artwork as well! I love the De Stijl design, an how it is simplistic but complex at the same time. I also really liked the way that they used the primary colours. I loved the different shades used in the drawing and how they made it look more realistic! You are really talented :)

  12. Hi Connor,
I'm Sana from UWC, I really like the minimalist de stijl painting, because it resembles the original really well. I think it's really hard to paint the black lines straight, but you've done it really well in this painting. Also, you've used plain colours, and haven't blended anything, and this makes the painting look simple, but also interesting. I really hope to see more artwork from you!

  14. Hey Connor, your sketch is very good and the fact that you have lightly sketched the face and how you have blended the pencil lines very well which create a really smooth effect.
