Spencer G - My Introduction

Hello,
My name is Spencer. I’m in Art 8 in Abu Dhabi. What is your favorite media of art? I like drawing graphite sketches. Right now, I’m currently working on repainting an image of a quilt made in the early 1900’s. I choose a quilt because I liked the simplicity and accuracy. In my city, they are about to open a place called The Louvre. It is a beautiful art museum. Here is some of my work on graphite to paper that I did earlier in the year. I choose to draw a picture of Jerome Bettis( a former American Football player) because I liked his dedication and skill on the field.

  1. HI SPENCER, I LIKE YOUR WORK. ESPECIALLY THE DRAWING OF THE GUYS FACE BECAUSE IT'S REALLY REALISTIC AND IT HAS A LOT OF DETAIL. I DON'T KNOW IF IT'LL HELP BUT, I THINK YOU COULD TRY ROUNDING OUT THE FACE A BIT. IF IT'S ANGLED ON PURPOSE ... THEN NEVER MIND ^^

    1. Thank you. I used a mix of 2-b, 4-b, and 6-b graphite pencils. I also used a technique where I darkened an area and smeared it with, so it could make a nice skin color. What is your favorite type of art work and what do you like to draw?

  6. Hi Spencer, My name is Rafael. I really like the first image because it uses very simple colours and its simplicity in general. I also like how you wrote about something in the 1900's, I also liked the second drawing because I really like the NFL, especially the 49ers. I also like the cartoony design of the second design, besides that I really like the jagged designs used on the beard.

  7. The drawing of the football player looks nice because you shaded it well. I really like it because even though you only used one shade you used different tones of black, and they really contrast with each other and work well together! Your first graphite piece (at the top) is quite mesmerizing because of the interesting pattern, and red and white are quite contrasting to each other. I like your artwork!

  8. What I find interesting about the football player portrait is how you have shaded the it really well, and I like how there are different tones of black, one being very light and one very dark. If there was a way you could improve, you could round the chin a bit, but otherwise it is a very nice piece.

  9. Wow! Your drawing of the football player is really amazing! I love how you've captured the expression of his face and I love the different use of shades that you used. It is really cool. To make it even better maybe add more texture to the places like the lips and his hair. But all in all it is a really amazing piece of artwork!
    Good work!

  10. Hi Spencer, my name is Jonathan. I really like your painting because of how you made the squares look like they are becoming further away, not sure if you did this on purpose but its really good :) You have done the corners of the squares very sharp and you have decreased the squares at exactly the right size every time. In future you could maybe consider to do different colours every square. Your drawing was also very realistic by how you did the shading and the general shape of the face. In future you could maybe work on the shape and shading of the ears. Your work is really good :)

    1. Thank you. I had trouble shading the ears, but I thought of some techniques and I will fix it up. I also meant for the allusion of the squares. Thanks for your feedback.
