3D Plaster Hand Project: Jessica

For my first project in art I chose to make a plaster art piece. I heard about being able to create a hand mold so I decided to create one hand in the shape of the hand sign by Spock. I chose to create a hand in this position so it could show the meaning of the quote (said by Spock), “Live long and prosper.” I have already mixed water and alginate powder together inside a jug. After I stirred the mixture I stuck my hand in, and held it in that position for a long time. Once the alginate had hardened, I removed my hand. Next I made plaster by mixing plaster powder and water (2 cups of powder for every 1 cup of water). Then pour the plaster in and have it set. Once the plaster has hardened, you can pop out the mold. Then start cutting away the alginate until you only have your hand left. What else do you think I should add to my hand?

I only added one more detail to my hand. I decided to carve "Live long and prosper" into the back of the hand. This is my finished project.

    I really like this
I was kinda scrolling down and suddenly BOOM SPOCK HAND WHOA
It's really amazing, because all the other ones I've seen have broken fingers!
So as for suggestions, I think that you could possibly carve the quote into the palm or the back of the hand?
If that doesn't work, (I'm sorry I have no experience with plaster) you could use a permanent marker instead.
I look forward to seeing your future artwork!

    1. Thank you! I have decided to carve "Live long and prosper" on the back of the hand. Have you ever decided to use plaster (in the future)?

  3. Hey,
I really like your artwork. I like the shape of the hand. How long did it take to make it? Our teacher thought it would be cool if we connected through social media. (we get points)

    1. It took about 30 minutes for me to make it but, thenI had to let it set, and I didn't have art class for 2-3 days, so I was unable to work on it, then it took about 1 hour to carve the alginate out.

  4. "May You Live long and Prosper"
How did you make it? Is it wax or plaster?
